The word Blida comes from Boulayda, Arabic diminutive of Bilad (country). This city is also called Ourida (little rose). It was founded in the 16th century by the marabout Sidi Ahmed el Kabir with the participation of Andalusian Muslims who transformed the uncultivable land into orange plantations orchards and the art of irrigation.
This city had monumental gates, designating different entrances to the city. However, they do not exist anymore, but their name still persists. We quote Bab el Dzair, Bab el Rahba, Bab el Sebt, Bab el Zaouia, Bab el Kseb, Bab el Kebor and Bab el Kouikha.
