Education
-PhD in Plant Biochemistry from Cambridge University, UK (1988), Department of Biological Sciences.
-Associate Prof. in Plant Physiology and Biochemistry (1995), Botany Department, Faculty of Science, Mansoura University, Egypt.
-Full Prof. of Plant Physiology and Biochemistry (2000), Botany Department, Faculty of Science, Mansoura University, Egypt.
Research interests
Scientific aspects including mechanism of allelopathy, kinetics of industrial enzymes, antioxidant system in plants and plant bioactive compounds.
A research group working on the mechanism of allelopathic response of several plants, including both crop plants and wild species, enzymes technology and metabolic pathways under stress conditions. Now the focus is mainly related to the molecular sites and the mode of action of several allelochemicals.
Supervision
-50 Master and PhD students. In addition, currently 30 candidates from Egypt and Algeria working on Master and PhD topics under his guidance
Publications
-150 scientific papers in national and international journals in the field of industrial enzymes, plant stress and allelopathy.
- Member of scientific committees and as reviewer for several scientific journals etc.
Visiting Professor
Visiting Professor to the Institute of photosynthesis (CAS-TWAS, Beijing, China, 2005), Cambridge University (UK, 2007), Delft University for Technology (Netherlands, 2007), University of Pharmacy and Life Science (Japan, 2008), Institute of Microbiology (Chinese Academy of Science, China, 2014, 2016, 2018).
Awards
awarded several scholarships among which mobility grant from European Commission (2006) to Exeter University, UK, JSPS fellowship for research in Japan (short term,2007), Nature Publishing Group (NPG) grant to Hong Kong (2013) and others and awarded several certificates of appreciation from Universities in China, Japan, Sweden, Taiwan, Kuwait and Netherlands.
Academic appointments
Member of the Egyptian Universities Promotion Committees (REUPC) for Professorship and assistant Professorship.
Conferences
Invited lectures at many national and international conferences and other occasions in the field of industrial enzyme biotechnology as well as allelopathy.
Member of the organizing committee for many international conferences and attended several conferences in England, France, Japan, China, Russia, Thailand, Korea, Singapore, United kingdom, Hong Kong, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands, Italy, Tunisia, Algeria, Qatar, and Kuwait.

Research projects
Cooperated in several projects in Egypt, China and Japan on enzyme biotechnology.
